Rehabilitation
Lymphedema Program
Lymphedema refers to swelling that occurs most often in your arms
or legs although it can also affect the head, neck, chest, abdomen
and genitalia. The swelling occurs when a blockage in your lymphatic
system prevents the lymph fluid from draining adequately. As the
fluid accumulates, the swelling continues.
Lymphedema can be caused by a birth defect in the lymphatic system
or damage to the lymphatic system during surgery, cancer treatment
or trauma. No cure for Lymphedema exists. But Lymphedema can be
controlled. Controlling Lymphedema involves diligent care of your
affected area.
At our Rehabilitation Center we employ a variety of treatments
focused on minimizing the swelling and controlling the pain. Lymphedema
is a chronic condition that can be successfully managed with on-going
maintenance Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Our highly skilled
therapists have specialized training in the management of Lymphedema
and have certification from Vodder School of North America for
Lymphedema management.
