The Healthy Children SOAR Program promotes healthy eating and physical activity for children 3 to 5 years of age and their parents. The children learn a variety of movement skills and concepts, move to music, learn sign language, engage in age appropriate and fun activities and are encouraged to make healthy choices about being active and eating nutritious foods.
The parents and caretakers in the Healthy Children SOAR Program also participate in physical activity, learn strategies on how to incorporate physical activity at home and learn about nutrition. Parents are included in the class because they are very influential teachers. Intergenerational programs build family bonds based on involvement and lay the early foundation for establishing active lifestyles for the entire family.
At the conclusion of each class, everyone sings a fun song and then receives an activity challenge to use at home. The activity challenge is an easy to make and healthy “Good for You” Recipe followed by a physical activity. Most importantly, everyone has a great time and parents or caretakers spend a very special play time together at the Healthy Children SOAR Program!
