Music Therapy

Countless studies have shown the positive value of music for the body, mind and spirit. Studies have shown that music can activate the relaxation response, which helps promote deep breathing, lower heart rate, lower blood pressure, ease muscle tension and create less stress. This can help cancer patients sleep better and relax the body so it can help relieve physical pain.

There are two music therapy programs on-going at Randolph Cancer Center: HealthRythms and Rotating Live Musicians.

HealthRhythms

HealthRhythms is led by a certified music therapist with over 30 years of experience and is a unique activity that combines proven health-promoting strategies including self-expression, group support, team building, nurturing, exercise, stress reduction and of course, music making. Using a variety of percussion instruments of all shapes, sizes and designs (drums, rattles, bells, shakers, etc.) participants have the opportunity to engage in a variety of groups activities that encourage healing and overall well-being.

Rotating Live Musicians

Soothing and inspirational sounds from talented musicians and an on-site baby grand piano fills the air with warmth and comfort giving patients and visitors another avenue for relaxation. At specific times throughout the year, local musicians honor our patients and their families by playing beautiful music throughout the facility and when the need arises, they will perform privately at the bedside.
