Relaxation Opportunities

There are several ways to relax within the Randolph Cancer Center - helping to improve blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety and provide a sense of freedom. Caring for the entire individual - body, mind and spirit can only aid in the fight against cancer.

Healing Garden

The sites, sounds and smells of a garden have always provided people with a respite from their troubles, a feeling of serenity and peace, particularly during times of stress. And although our garden isn't mature yet and is a fledging garden - over time as plants, shrubs and flowers mature it will provide a haven in which our cancer patients can take relief.

Viewable from the Randolph Cancer Center infusion (chemotherapy) area, patients can view a variety of living plants, shrubs, flowers and one-of-a-kind sculptures from artists Bill Rankin and custom-made art from master potter, Ben Owen III.

Randolph Quilters Guild

One of the unique pieces of art that is hanging prominently in the Randolph Cancer Center Lobby is a one-of-a-kind quilt designed and created by members of the local Randolph Quilters Guild.

The quilt, which incorporates rich greens, golden tans and browns to compliment the Cancer Center waiting room colors, showcases various items found in Randolph County. For example, pottery pieces, mountains in the distance reminiscent of the Uwharrie Mountains along with a Carolina blue sky and plenty of flowers and birds, are all part of this amazing masterpiece. Patients and loved ones can hopefully see something new each times they view the quilt, brining a sense of peace and serenity.

Meditation Room

Patients and loved ones can relax in a private meditation room. The room, filled with a quiet and serene ambiance, has a beautifully hand-painted original mural by local artist, Susan Lippard, providing patients an opportunity for quiet reflection - hopefully helping to improve one's mental outlook.

Journaling

Journaling is a term coined for the practice of keeping a diary or journal that explores thoughts and feelings surrounding the events of one's life. It allows people to clarify their thoughts and feelings, thereby gaining valuable self-knowledge. It can help patients process a cancer diagnosis by fully exploring and releasing the emotions involved. Journaling has proven to strengthen the immune system, prevent a host of illnesses, counteract many of the negative effects of stress and improve cognitive functioning.
