The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons
(ACS) granted a three-year re-accreditation with Commendation to the
cancer program and Randolph Cancer Center. This highly prestigious
accreditation is awarded when an area program complies with all standards
and receives a commendation rating for one or more of the eligible
standards. The Randolph Cancer Center received its first accreditation
from the CoC and the ACS in 2004.
Approval is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the best in diagnosis and treatment of cancer to a rigorous evaluation process and a review of its performance. There are currently more than 1,400 approved cancer programs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, representing close to 25 percent of all hospitals. This 25 percent of hospitals diagnose and/or treat 80 percent of newly diagnosed cancer patients each year.
