Helping children SOAR

Randolph County is committed to helping children rise above the growing risk of childhood obesity and SOAR to healthier, happier lives.

By following four simple strategies, parents and caretakers can help their child SOAR with confidence to a lifestyle that is active, nutritionally balanced and beneficial to the mind and body.

SOAR stands for:

  • Slow down on fast food.
  • Opt for water.
  • Add activity.
  • Reduce TV.

What is the SOAR Campaign?
SOAR is a coordinated campaign devoted to promoting wellness and improving the quality of life of families in Randolph County. It is designed to help families and caretakers of children six years of age and younger develop and sustain healthy lifestyles. SOAR focuses on practical strategies to promote healthy eating and family physical activity.

The SOAR campaign is a collaborative partnership between Randolph Hospital, the Randolph County Health Department, Randolph County Partnership for Children, NC Cooperative Extension Service, Randolph Health Improvement Partnership, pediatricians, family practitioners, the Division of Social Services and other community partners. SOAR was developed through the generous support of The Duke Endowment.

SOAR Programs and Recipes for Your Family
SOAR Programs offer a variety of community programs for children and their parents and caretakers.

In collaboration with Lowes Foods, SOAR is promoting “Good for You” Recipes so parents can have access to healthy, convenient and affordable meals that the entire family can enjoy and feel good about.
