

Our Surgical Services volunteers provide valuable support by serving as a communication link between staff, physicians and patient family members. Duties may include helping to arrange a consultation session for families with the surgeon or other Operating Room staff, as well as providing families with needed amenities such as water, drinks, tissue, etc. If you are detail oriented and enjoy personal interactions, ask about a volunteer position in surgical services.

As a gift shop volunteer you will gain expertise in greeting and assisting customers, helping arrange and display new merchandise and conducting cash transactions. If you are a “people person”, the Wishes and Whatnots gift shop is a terrific, rewarding place to volunteer!
Café Gifts, located in the Outpatient Center lobby, provides a convenient service to our patients, visitors and staff with its selection of snacks, beverages and small gift items. Primary duties include assisting customers and conducting cash transactions. If you prefer a leisurely pace, Café Gifts is a wonderful volunteer opportunity.
Delivering complimentary coffee and tasty seasonal beverages like hot chocolate and lemonade to patients and visitors so they don’t miss any important information is a rewarding experience. Our Coffee Cart volunteers also deliver magazines to waiting areas and assist the Volunteer Office with a variety of interesting projects. The Coffee Cart volunteer position is a great way to get some light exercise while performing an outstanding service. Must be able to walk throughout the hospital and push a coffee cart.
As a volunteer, you can greet patients upon arrival at the Diagnostic Imaging reception area. This department also give you the opportunity to assist staff with checking in patients and escorting/ transporting them to their treatment area for procedures.
Volunteers at the Special Procedures reception are area are friendly and upbeat. Typically volunteers greet patients, assist staff by checking-in patients and then escort/transport them to their treatment areas. It’s very rewarding to see patients to their destinations.
Our Health Information/Medical Records volunteers assist with clerical duties and patient chart distribution. This volunteer role is ideal for a conscientious person who enjoys the organized structure of office duties and recordkeeping. This is a great opportunity for students who would like to gain knowledge in records coding, transcription or general medical chart upkeep.
Not convenient to come to Randolph Hospital to volunteer? You can still contribute your time and make someone's day by volunteering from your own home. Our Virtual Volunteers crochet or knit newborn baby hats for every baby born in Randolph Hospital. Other home-based volunteers knit or sew lap blankets for our Palliative Care patients or knit prayer shawls for patients recognized by our Spiritual Care department. Virtual Volunteering is a wonderful way of providing a personal keepsake to each recipient.
Looking for a more clerical volunteer role? The hospital also has opportunities for volunteers to use their office skills, including filing, copying, computer skills and using various office equipment. If you have Microsoft Office skills, then there are lots of different opportunities for you.
Volunteers work closely with the Rehabilitation Services staff to help set-up patient hot/cold packs, assist with making fresh beds, clean therapy equipment and assist with patient transport. This volunteer role also offers students who are interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy or other health-related fields opportunities to observe and interact with patients.
The Welcome Center and Outpatient Center are areas that always need greeters that assist arriving and departing patients and visitors. This is an especially important volunteer role in that volunteers are often someone’s first impression of Randolph Hospital. Duties include transporting/escorting patients and visitors to their necessary destination. There can be lots of walking involved and you must be able to push up to 450 lbs. by wheelchair. An outgoing personality and a desire to convey excellent customer service are a must for these volunteer positions.
Service Excellence volunteers play an essential role in our ongoing efforts to ensure patients and their families have the best possible experience while at Randolph Hospital. Acting as “eyes and ears” to our patient population, Service Excellence volunteers visit patient rooms and waiting areas and provide relevant information about questions and concerns patients and family members may have. This friendly “people person” position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
The Living History Program© is a method of documenting personal life stories of participating patients in the hospital. The program utilizes people-oriented volunteers who interview patients and/or family members to get basic information, which is then transcribed into a one-page story. In addition to the story being printed and presented to the patient, the story becomes a part of the patient’s medical record so treatment interactions can be made on a more personalized level. This is a highly successful program recognized in healthcare facilities nationwide.
A volunteer position in the Infusion Area of the Cancer Center involves interacting with cancer patients undergoing active treatment as well as the patient’s caregivers. A positive, compassionate personality is essential to this role. Our volunteers work closely with the Cancer Center staff as well as independently, once familiar with the position requirements. Volunteering in our Cancer Center is a very rewarding experience.
By bringing art, music, relaxation techniques and more to our healthcare environment, we strive to promote health and enhance healing.
